SJBA President’s Address at Annual General Meeting

Great evening distinguished members, I would firstly like to thank all our members in attendance for coming out to our Annual General Meeting 2021/2022 and for the support shown to me and the newly installed Board of Directors for the said term. I would also like to extend thanks to the outgoing President and Board of Directors 2019/2020. I wish you all prosperity and success in all future endeavors and the new Board would be engaging each of you that are embarking on a new journey to ensure continuity within the Association.

In this new term, I would like to set the tone to ensure the new board focus on the following areas:

• Re-examine the organization structure to give us a platform for efficiency and effectiveness in achieving our objectives.

• Improve transparency and accountability and in the first instance to ensure the Association Corporate Governance documents are updated to reflect the principles approved through the resolutions laid and adopted today.

• Rededicating the organization to communicate more effectively with its membership by facilitating dialogue to and from the new Board of Directors.

• Embark on a comprehensive membership drive that would address updating our membership database information for current members and bring new members into the fold. In my estimation, the Association needs to achieve a paid membership base of 150 members to become sustainable. This is achievable as it can be noted that at the height of our powers in the past, we generally were above 400 paid members.

• Lastly, the new Board would develop and communicate a new strategic plan that would outline how the association is going to deliver service and value to its membership. The last year has been extremely challenging navigating through the ongoing pandemic. Special thanks must be extended to the past Board of Directors and TTMA through our partnership in delivering an efficient and successful vaccination drive. The battle continues and we are going to be successful! I call on each member to ensure we become the standard-bearer in the country where Covid Protocols inclusive social distancing, signage, and ensuring our membership gets up to at least a 70% vaccination rate in order to achieve herd immunity. I would also like to open up the lines of communication in welcoming feedback from our membership on issues and suggestions to e-mail us at sanjuanbusiness@gmail.com to express your views to us. In very quick succession, our new Board of Directors would be reaching out to our membership to deepen our relationship with you and reemphasize our commitment to Community Development through business.

Once again, thanks for this opportunity to make a significant contribution to our community and you would be hearing from us soon. Minutes of this AGM and ratified election results would be communicated by 10th September 2021.
