History
San Juan Business Association was founded in 1990 in response to the aftermath of insurrection in the country. Due to heavy losses incurred to the business community, the Association was tasked with the responsibility of advocating for reparation for damages and lead the rebuilding of a vibrant business community. Through the leadership of its first President Mr. Abrahim Ali, SJBA engaged in activities that would unite the business community.
The Association led through its motto that is still the pillar of its success today “Community Development Through Business”. Notable accomplishments of the Association includes funding the construction of the San Juan Police Sub Station and the conceptualisation of beautifying the San Juan Promenade. The Association was also instrumental in lobbying the Government in acquiring lands for the Barataria Police Station as well as repairing police vehicles obtained from the Police Motor Pool in St. James for the use by North Eastern Police Devision. The Association constantly monitors the political climate in the country and has always been a leader through collaboration in developing impactful crime and traffic plans with all relevant stakeholders.
Youth development is a key component SJBA holds very dear. Over the years, SJBA has sponsored youth wanting to pursue business studies through a partial scholarship. The Association is currently engaging stakeholders to make this initiative more formal in terms training and preparedness. In this regard, the objective would be to pass on instrumental knowledge and skills to youth within our community to better prepare them for the world of entrepreneurship.
With over 30 years in rich history, SJBA has been led by 7 different Presidents to date. It continues to be at the forefront of business development and will be a mainstay in Trinidad & Tobago for the foreseeable future.
